Jeongeupsa Culture Festival

The Jeongeupsa Culture Festival is a local cultural festival themed on "Jeongeupsa," the only surviving song from the Baekje kingdom, and the love of the woman in the song. "Jeongeupsa" is a Baekje song in which a wife prays to the moon for the safe return of her husband, who has gone out peddling; its lyrics were recorded in Hangeul in Akhak Gwebeom of the Joseon period. The festival carries on the historical meaning of Jeongeupsa and introduces Jeongeup's unique cultural resources to citizens and visitors. The main traditional events are the water-drawing ritual at Jeonghae Village and a memorial rite honoring the spirit of the woman of Jeongeupsa. New this year is a Baekje costume experience, where you put on Baekje-era clothing and hair ornaments and take commemorative photos. The festival presents the legend of Jeongeupsa and Baekje culture through traditional rites and hands-on activities.
