In October, when ginseng is at its most nutritious, the Punggi Ginseng Festival comes vividly to life in Yeongju, one of Korea's foremost ginseng-growing areas. As befits a festival themed on ginseng, a symbol of health, it centers on health-related exhibitions and hands-on programs that people of every age can enjoy. Special programs include the Gaesamteo memorial rite, a reenactment of Magistrate Ju Se-bung's procession and the Insam Daeje rite. You can taste ginseng dishes made with nutritious Punggi ginseng and try enjoyable ginseng-related activities such as ginseng peeling. Fresh and red ginseng harvested with care by local growers, along with processed ginseng foods, can also be bought at reasonable prices.
