Namsan Beacon Fire Ceremony and Traditional Culture Events

The Namsan Beacon Fire Ceremony and related traditional culture events are a Seoul Metropolitan Government program that recreates the communication methods of the Joseon era to share Korea's traditional culture with residents and visitors from home and abroad. The Namsan beacon station was an important means of communication in the Joseon era, the final gathering point for beacon fires relayed from stations across the country to report the situation to the capital. At the beacon station you can watch the ceremony and hear historical commentary. The bell-ringing at Bosingak Pavilion at noon each day is a participatory event held together with residents and visitors. At the Palgakjeong Plaza by Seoul's Namsan Tower you can watch samulnori performances and traditional martial arts demonstrations. There are also hands-on programs such as a day as a watch officer and a day as a beacon keeper.
