Yeonsan Jujube Culture Festival

With the fields that rippled golden now behind us and a cool wind making you draw your collar closer, the Yeonsan Jujube Culture Festival — full of jujubes ripened in autumn sun and of warm hospitality — is held in the town of Yeonsan, where the spirit of General Gyebaek lives on. Yeonsan jujubes earned their name when traders began buying up and selling the fruit grown widely in Yeonsan-myeon and the nearby Beolgok-myeon and Yangchon-myeon, as well as around Unju-myeon in Jeollabuk-do. Thanks to the efforts of Yeonsan's jujube merchants to sell especially good fruit to customers who came to Yeonsan to buy it, the town's reputation for quality spread widely; it has become a trading hub where more than 40 percent of the country's jujubes are sold, and is moving toward becoming the largest producing area in Korea to match that reputation. To promote Yeonsan's standing as a jujube hub and the quality of its fruit, the festival lets you buy jujubes at low prices and enjoy a range of events.
