Incheon Wondosa Rite & Nakseom Festival

Since ancient times, Koreans held rites at famous mountains, rivers and seas to pray for the peace of the nation and its towns and to ask for blessings. For the sea, rites were held in Incheon, Suncheon, Gangneung and elsewhere during the Joseon period; the Incheon Dohobu held its rite to the god of the West Sea at Wondo (Nakseom). The Incheon Wondosa Rite is the rite held in spring and autumn at Wondosa, a shrine built on Wondo during Joseon, where Incheon's local magistrate gathered the spirit tablets of many islands and performed the rite on behalf of the king. The 2026 Incheon Wondosa Rite & Nakseom Festival is a Michuhol-gu festival combining a reenactment of the rite with a village festival and a street parade of harmony.
