June 10th Independence Movement Centennial Independence Fair

2026 marks 100 years since the June 10 Independence Movement. To mark the centenary, the June 10th Independence Movement Centennial Independence Fair is held to encounter the meaning of the independence movement anew within everyday life. The fair is a mixed event at the Andong International Convention Center taking in exhibitions and hands-on programs, lectures and talks, education and culture. In the 'exhibition zone', the scene of the movement is recreated so that historical knowledge can be learned indirectly; in the 'hands-on zone', participatory content created with various veterans' affairs organizations helps future generations learn naturally about a movement they had found difficult to approach. Indoors there are informative lectures and talk shows for young people, while outdoors performances and rest areas make for a lively, enjoyable festival. Grounded in the belief that a forward-looking 'culture of remembrance' should be something 'anyone can enjoy easily and with pleasure', it is run in today's language and manner. The independence movement is not a single line of history in a textbook; it is our own story of ordinary people acting together to make a better tomorrow. The event offers a special time to encounter again, in today's spaces, the cries of 'manse' that rang through the streets a century ago, and to consider together the value and meaning of independence that we should remember.
