Welcome to Singwan-dong

Welcome to Singwan-dong is a street festival centered on youth culture, held around the university street in Singwan-dong, Gongju. Part of the culture city project pursued by the city of Gongju and the Gongju Culture and Tourism Foundation, it aims to develop Singwan-dong as a hub of youth culture and to invigorate the local cultural ecosystem and commercial district. Held since 2022 and run as a street performance-centered festival, it has expanded its content in stages to include a busking competition, street performances, a beer festa, a flea market and hands-on programs. In 2025 the 'Welcome to Singwan-dong' brand was established through street signage, installations and navigation service listings, and in 2026 the aim is to build a sustainable festival model on a cooperative structure involving residents, merchants, universities and young people. The 2026 festival is scheduled for October 9 to 11 around the Singwan-dong university street, with a main performance, national street performances, performances by local youth and young adult troupes, programs linked to local businesses and local currency coupon events. It will also be run in connection with the Baekje Cultural Festival to encourage visitors to stay longer, as a signature local street festival working toward cultural and economic vitality across Singwan-dong.
